Communication Gaps
We're moving too fast at work.
It's hurting our impact.
It happens to me AND you.
- Communication gets sloppy
- Standards get lowered
- Meaning gets lost
Instead, slow down and simplify.
It'll save time and money.
And preserve brands and reputations.
Communication gaps to improve:
1️⃣ Shorten links
• Paragraph-long links are painful
• Less is more
• Use bit.ly or tinyurl
• In emails, slides, and LinkedIn URLs
• Hyperlinks keep it concise
2️⃣ Add space to long messages
• Walls of text make readers work
• Clear writing = clear thinking
• Break up paragraphs
• Use bullets or dashes
3️⃣ Put context in calendar invites
• What's this meeting about anyway?
• A purpose, agenda, and outcome?
• Plan short talks (10 or 15 minutes)
• Calendly makes scheduling easy
4️⃣ Give emails time
• Hack away at the unessential
• Short words, short sentences
• Read zenhabits.net/snore
• Or three.sentenc.es
5️⃣ Be kind to people
• Greet with eye contact and a smile
• Good morning, how are you? works!
• They might know something you don't
• We’re all fighting quiet battles
6️⃣ Have an eye for your content
• Enliven charts, graphs, and slides
• Calm colors beat harsh reds 🔴
• Get ideas from coolors.co
• Model Leica, Apple, and Ugmonk
7️⃣ Choose words wisely
• Drop "likes" and "rights" - Right?
• Have a point and tell the audience
• Use words you'd normally use
• Hear them in your head, then speak
Look, haste makes waste. Time is money. Clarity wins. What’s one small move you’ll make today to button-up how you communicate?
